WordPress.com – Comment Replies via Email

with 17 comments

While the Automattic crew was in Colorado last week we were working on new features and tonight we’re opening a beta for the one of those – comment replies via email. This is a new capability that we’ve added to WordPress.com that allows you to reply to a comment simply by replying to the comment notification email that gets sent out to post authors when someone leaves a new comment. Here’s a quick video that shows how it works:

To start with we are calling for beta testers. If you want to get in on the beta leave a comment on the announcement post specifying what the URL of your WordPress.com blog is. We’ll be adding users to the beta until 7pm (Utah time) Friday 24 October 2008.

I have a personal attachment to this feature, Barry, Jon Fox (from IntenseDebate) and I worked on this while in Colorado. So I’ll be keeping on eye on how the beta testing goes.

Awesome news, Joseph! You’re on fire lately! Is this only for Wordpress.com blogs? Also, you should be sure to talk to the FriendFeed guys about integrating this.

The period for adding blogs to the beta has already closed. We’ll make another announcement when this feature has been enabled for all WordPress.com blogs.

I definitely would like to be a part of this beta test! (Or if truly closed… when it goes live…)

We’ve closed sign-ups for the beta, but we’ll eventually be making it active for all blogs.

It’s interesting, but it doesn’t recognize some characters. I write in Portuguese in my blog, so some comments where like Wingdings!

And now, I want to turn off this thing and can’t find out how. Could you please help me?

Can you contact WordPress.com support so that we can track that issue in the ticket system.

As for turning it off, there’s no need, simply don’t reply to comment notification emails.

    Thank’s

This is a feature only for WordPress.com hosted blogs.

      • Omear said, on March 9th, 2009 at 5:25 pm

Our intranet is proudly hosted by Wordpress :)
        (it’s a blog lol)

        but I don’t have that feature………

Your intranet is hosted by WordPress.com? I’m not talking about downloading the software from WordPress.org, the site has to actually be hosted at WordPress.com. If that’s the case drop me a note with the URL for your blog on WordPress.com and I’ll enable it on for your blog.

my apologies I got you know.

damn that would be sweet if it was able to work for blogs hosted outside of wordpress. Any idea if/when that will happen?

            Thanks
