About

Here’s a little bit of background about me. If you trying to get in touch with me please use my contact form.

I grew up in the Modesto, California area, specifically in Riverbank, California. I lived there until I was 19, then I lived in Melbourne, Victoria in Australia for two years where I served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as the Mormons). In January of 1996 I married Sarah and moved to Sacramento, California in June 1999. Our last move was to Sandy, Utah in July 2007.

I work for Automattic, which runs WordPress.com (along with a few other projects) and provides a lot of support for WordPress.org. Prior to working for Automattic I spent 8 years at The Office of Water Programs at California State University, Sacramento, 3 years at a small Internet Service Provider (ISP) and 1 year in the IT department of an integrated circuit manufacturer.

Most of my work time revolves around WordPress, so most of my code is written in PHP. I’ve also spent some time writing Perl scripts in the past. On the database side of things my current focus is MySQL (the only database that WordPress supports) and I’ve used PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle. I’ve been a FreeBSD fan in the Operating System (OS) arena. On an average day I make use of Linux, Windows and Mac OS X along with FreeBSD.

Despite having little skill in the game, I enjoy playing basketball when I get the chance.
